Frank Schmid is Senior Advisor to the Executive Chairman and a member of the Executive Board of General Reinsurance AG. He previously served as Gen Re’s Chief Technology Officer, directing the IT Department and setting the company’s technology strategy. He holds a doctorate in economics from Leuphana University of Lüneburg, where he also held an appointment as extraordinary professor. His earlier career includes positions at AIG, the National Council on Compensation Insurance, and the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. He has taught finance and economics at institutions in Europe and Asia Pacific, and in 2006 received the Hicks Tinbergen Award from the European Economic Association, jointly with Gary Gorton.
