Vietnam’s Critical Illness (CI) insurance market is growing rapidly, and Gen Re has completed a study covering 2018 to 2024 based on over 5.3 million policies and 87,000 claims. Key findings show a young, balanced customer base with rising sum assured amounts outpacing inflation. Claims are shifting from death to early-stage CI, with cancer, heart attack, and stroke dominating. Unique cancer patterns include high rates of thyroid and liver cancers. As Vietnam’s CI market matures, insurers face important decisions around product definitions and prevention strategies to maintain sustainability while meeting policyholder needs.
