Frank Schmid is Senior Advisor to the Executive Chairman and a member of the Executive Board of General Reinsurance AG. He plays a leading role in Gen Re’s AI adoption. Previously, Frank served as Gen Re’s Chief Technology Officer, responsible for directing the IT Department and shaping the company’s technology and AI initiatives. He holds a doctorate in economics from Leuphana University of Lüneburg, where he also served as an extraordinary professor. His prior experience includes roles at AIG, the National Council on Compensation Insurance, and the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. He has taught finance and economics in Europe and Asia Pacific and received the Hicks Tinbergen Award from the European Economic Association in 2006, jointly with Gary Gorton of Yale University.
