We currently offer an excellent opportunity for a Technical Claims Manager to join our Gen Re Life (GRLA) team in the Sydney office. We are seeking an expert with comprehensive claims management knowledge and experience, analytical skills and industry knowledge. This dynamic individual will demonstrate a holistic understanding of the claims management process with an enthusiasm for driving change and proactively contributing to achieving outcomes.

Your Role

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director of GRLA based in Sydney, you will be an integral part of the team. As the Technical Claims Manager you will be responsible for and oversee all claim assessments across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. You will also be responsible for:

  • Driving claims management excellence in the team with the goal of achieving a market leading position;
  • Consulting and influencing key clients to uplift the standard of claims management within the industry;
  • Developing claims management systems and working with actuarial teams to pro-actively triage claims;
  • Providing clients with solutions to the most difficult risks and exposures in the marketplace;
  • Decides on critical individual claims decisions within the defined referral procedures and authority;
  • Represent GRLA at conferences and conventions as a recognised professional in Claims Management, speaking at an expert level about contracts, forms, coverages, and nuances in the industry;
  • Guide, motivate, support and develop the team as a leader within GRLA and the wider Gen Re organization;
  • Provide insights to your colleagues and clients on current and emerging industry trends;
  • Deliver internal and external training modules and presentations.

Your Profile

  • Minimum 15+ years’ experience managing claims within life insurance. Reinsurance experience, allied health or other relevant vocational background is desirable but not essential;
  • Holistic understanding of claims processes & proactive claims management
  • Excellent technical, claims related capabilities, including claims investigations
  • Strong knowledge of LICOP, legislation and Ombudsman and litigation processes;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build rapport and influence at all levels;
  • An ability to influence all stakeholders and negotiate outcomes beneficial to GRLA.
  • Willingness to travel internationally
  • Experience in training and presenting information to a range of stakeholders.
