The Gen Re Life Australia team is seeking to appoint a dynamic and experienced Claims Specialist on a fixed term contract in our Sydney office. The contract will commence as soon as possible and will end on 31 August 2022.

Your Role

As a Claims Specialist you will be responsible for supporting the team by delivering assessments of individual claims within defined authority, across all lines of Life Insurance products, to your clients. You will report to the Chief Operating Officer and work closely with the wider Gen Re Life team, including the Head of Claims in Australia.

You will have an analytical mindset, be adaptable when facing challenges and have a reputation as a strong communicator. This role will give you the opportunity to demonstrate your skills and develop yourself further while working with insurers across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.

The role will also be involved in the following:

  • Assess the medical, occupational, functional and financial factors of the claims we receive.
  • Determine eligibility, investigating non-disclosure, and requesting and assessing retrospective underwriting opinions.
  • Conduct investigations and determine strategy and management plans for each claim.
  • Application of the Insurance Contracts Act and understanding the Life Insurance Code of Practice.

Your Profile

  • Experience managing life insurance claims at a senior level resulting in strong technical expertise, conducting investigations and formulating management strategies.
  • Tertiary qualifications in accounting, law, allied health or nursing would be advantageous.
  • Experience reporting to management on trends and auditing claims files is desirable, but not essential.
  • Knowledge of LICOP, industry relevant legislation and litigation processes.
  • An ability to influence all stakeholders and negotiate outcomes beneficial to GRLA.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication.
