Gen Re currently offers an excellent opportunity within Property Facultative North America (PFNA) as an Underwriter Associate in our Toronto Branch location. This position requires fluency in both English and French.

Your Role

Underwriting Discipline
  • Contribute to the PFNA goal of growing Underwriting Profits
  • Understand and apply departmental underwriting philosophy, rules and guidelines
  • Process and underwrite risks in UWD, EDDIE, and Gen Re Connect including set up, quotes, binders, certificates and endorsements for IR and Program business and follow-up on open quotes and expirations
  • Calculate accurate technical rates for accounts within your authority utilizing PFNA rating tools and pricing methodologies, utilizing underwriting resources and referral network across PFNA for input and assistance.
  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of:
    • Contracts and policy forms
    • Pricing structures
    • Terms and conditions
    • Topical underwriting issues
    • Technology and systems
  • Ensure clear, concise and accurate documentation (internal and external)
  • As appropriate, seek opportunities to be involved in research/analysis

Client Service Discipline
  • Handle facultative risks in a timely manner
  • Foster quality client relationships by:
    • Understanding and properly servicing client needs
    • Executing on client service plans
  • Understand market pricing and market terms and conditions
  • Demonstrate basic presentation and communication skills
  • Provide clients with appropriate risk solutions
  • Contribute to client growth within PFNA

Teamwork and Leadership
  • As appropriate, solicit/provide a quality second head on facultative risk transactions
  • Ensure teamwork within client, branch, cross-branch, cross-unit or project teams by contributing to a positive, supportive and disciplined environment

Your Profile

  • Min. 2+ years of reinsurance underwriting experience
  • College degree
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Interpersonal skills/critical thinking skills
  • Organized, attentive to detail and superior multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent Excel Skill
  • Ability to extract and manipulate date proficiently
  • High degree of energy/tenacity
  • Capacity to work remotely from the manager and operate in a team environment – flexibility to travel
  • Bilingual – fluent in French and English
