We are currently offering an excellent opportunity for an Actuary within our Corporate Actuarial Services in our Stamford, CT office.

Your Role

The Actuary is responsible for the estimation of IBNR reserves and experience report analysis in support of Corporate Actuarial mission; includes responsibility for reserving one or more lines of business. In addition, the Actuary will communicate with Line of Business teams to explain and understand results and will work with the Finance Department in support of Financial, Statutory, and Management reporting requirements.

The following are the primary accountabilities of the position:

  • Understanding of IBNR calculation system and reserving methods used within the dept.
  • Responsible for all aspects of IBNR reserving of specific lines of business to include interaction/presentations with Underwriters, Marketing and Claims staff.
  • Successfully complete special studies as needed.
  • Continue to pass actuarial examinations.
  • Assigned projects such as: lines of business studies, loss development reviews, discounting, profitability, account specific IBNR, etc.
  • Support development and maintenance of reserving software and processes.
  • Support financial and management reporting activities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to influence and persuade.

Your Profile

  • University degree is required. Prefer a major course of study in actuarial science, statistics or mathematics.
  • Two to three years actuarial P&C experience in insurance or reinsurance. Reserving experience is a plus.
  • 3+ actuarial exams passed; actively taking exams.
  • Fluency in Excel, Access, etc. VBA and R knowledge highly desirable.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated and willing to learn.
