Actuarial Analyst

Shape Your Future With Us

General Re Corporation, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., is a holding company for global reinsurance and related operations, with more than 2,000 employees worldwide. It owns General Reinsurance Corporation and General Reinsurance AG, which conduct business as Gen Re.

Gen Re delivers reinsurance solutions to the Life/Health and Property/Casualty insurance industries. Represented in all major reinsurance markets through a network of more than 40 offices, we have earned superior financial strength ratings from each of the major rating agencies.

Our Gen Re Life team is seeking to appoint an Actuarial Analyst in our Sydney office.

Your Role

As an Actuarial Analyst you will be a key member of our team, working with talented actuaries and data scientists. You will be responsible for data analytics, reporting your findings to the business, pricing and research support, maintaining and keeping up to date all experience investigations as well as maintaining and developing actuarial projection models. The role will also involve liaising and negotiating with clients when additional data is required.

This is a great opportunity to be involved in a wide range of Australian and New Zealand life insurance issues from the perspective of a successful reinsurer.

Your Profile

  • Have previous experience in life insurance or reinsurance
  • Actuarial qualifications or an actuarial background
  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills
  • Previous experience with SQL and R
  • Contribute to and promote a positive and collaborative culture
  • Ability to work independently but collaboratively

While the preference is for someone who fulfils the above experience criteria, we will consider exceptional candidates with less experience whom we deem capable of growing into the role. Gen Re is an equal opportunity employer where each application is assessed on its merits.

We offer you a

  • Highly professional working environment that values excellence, integrity, personal responsibility and diversity
  • Flat management hierarchy and team-based environment that promote collaboration and free-flowing communication
  • Performance-based remuneration package commensurate with experience and qualifications
