Susan began her career in insurance medicine in 2005 while still a practicing internist, working as a medical director for several notable insurance companies. In 2015, she transitioned to full-time insurance medicine at Equitable Holdings and attained board certification in insurance medicine in 2017. In 2019, Susan joined Northwestern Mutual as Medical Director. While there she served as the medical team liaison for underwriting learning and development, chaired the Climate Change Committee, and led the Culture Concepts discussion group. A member of the American Academy of Insurance Medicine since 2011, Susan currently serves as its Secretary-Treasurer and is a member of the Education, Finance, and Board of Insurance Medicine committees. She previously served as an officer for the Midwestern Medical Directors Association and is the Nominating Committee Chair for the American Council of Life Insurance Medical Section. Dr. Stegman has presented on a wide range of medical topics at numerous industry meetings including WAHLU, MMDA, ALU, AAIM, and AHOU. Susan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame and her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Cincinnati.
