What Our Interns Have to Say
Underwriter Trainee, Philadelphia Office
“My time at Gen Re began as a summer intern in the Property Facultative and Treaty departments in Stamford. In addition to learning about Gen Re's business, departmental reporting systems, contract wording and marketing tools, I had the opportunity to work alongside senior management from the beginning. After college, I accepted a position in Property Facultative as an underwriter trainee where I took part in the company's comprehensive training program. Here I was instructed by experienced underwriters from all over the country on all aspects of the business, including company underwriting guidelines. My Gen Re internship and trainee positions provided a solid underwriting foundation, as well as an impressive professional network, from which to launch what I hope will be a long and successful career.”
Actuarial Student, Stamford Office
“I started with Gen Re as an actuarial intern for the Life & Health company. Since I began working full time, I’ve been able to get deeply involved in valuation and model building for Individual Life products. Gen Re’s actuarial student program is full of talented people, and the company continues to be very supportive throughout the exam process. I can’t speak more highly of all the people I’ve worked with here; they push me to grow and learn every day.”
Associate Claims Specialist, Cologne Office
“During my time as a working student at Gen Re, I was able to gain interesting insights into the operations of a reinsurance company. Through in-house training I had the opportunity to get to know many aspects of the business and work closely with employees in different areas of the company.
The experience I gained during this time, as well as the collegial team environment, motivated me to apply for an open position as a Claims Specialist. During the international trainee programme, I have been able to further develop my personal and professional skills through a variety of training courses and on-the-job training. These opportunities made it possible for me to take personal responsibility from day one.”
Actuarial Associate, Cape Town
“Gen Re is my family away from home. From the first day I interacted with Gen Re, during a bursary interview, it has been an amazing journey. If I had to choose three highlights to describe my time with the company it would be Supportiveness, Environment, and Culture.
Supportiveness – Everyone is willing to give you a helping hand if you ask, no matter if it is work related or personal.
Environment –The people are very friendly and excellent at their jobs. We have an open door policy. Such an environment is excellent for open conversations, and has been great for my learning and career development.
Culture – The Gen Re culture to give constructive feedback has had a positive impact on me and gives me the opportunity to constantly grow.
I’m looking forward to spending many more years with my Gen Re family.”
