General Reinsurance Africa Ltd (a subsidiary of General Reinsurance AG) currently offers an opportunity for a Data Protection Specialist in the Risk and Compliance team in our Cape Town office.

Your Role

Gen Re is currently seeking a contractor for a fixed term contract of 12-months to assist with the company’s POPIA implementation. This role will collaborate with relevant departments to ensure that the company is POPIA compliant, and all regulations are met on an ongoing basis. The below are some of the activities the role will be fulfilling:

  • Assessment of the current position with regards to POPIA with and for all relevant departments
  • Advisory engagement with management
  • Supporting the departments regarding the identification, adoption, and implementation of effective data protection compliance processes
  • Compiling and adjusting internal corporate guidelines and ensuring that employees are appropriately trained
  • Dealing with internal and external inquiries relating to the topic of data protection
  • Cooperating closely with the Risk Management function
  • Project Management of POPIA implementation

Your Profile

Candidates need to have completed a degree with a major in one of the following areas, Legal/Compliance, IT, B. Com or equivalent. The role requires knowledge in the field of data protection management, Risk management and mitigation. Audit, Privacy and POPIA (GDPR) regulations would be preferable.

  • Fluent in English
