Business Development Executive – Marketing Actuary

General Reinsurance, London Branch (a subsidiary of General Reinsurance AG) is offering an opportunity for an Business Development Executive – Marketing Actuary in our London Life/Health Department.

Your Role

The Business Development Executive role forms a key part of Gen Re’s external profile. Business Development Executives are the outward facing lead for our relationships with our clients. They are respected senior members of the Gen Re team responsible for managing a portfolio of clients in the UK and Ireland as well as helping form the strategy for the UK business. Within the London office there are 4 members of the Sales, Marketing and Account Management Team.

The emphasis of this role is on the development and management of successful relationships, not only with clients but within the organisation. Gen Re Life Health’s London office utilises a flat structure, which requires considerable cross-functional interaction and cooperation with colleagues to ensure that client needs and expectations can be met. The role requires someone who can work collaboratively with clients and colleagues alike and build deep relationships to the benefit of the business.

We are looking for someone who would be responsible and accountable for winning new business and new clients; as well show strong account management skills to retain and grow our current portfolio of business.

Key responsibilities

Managing client relationships through:

  • Understanding the financial and risk management needs of the client and developing solutions/ products to meet those needs;
  • Managing the financial position of the client account to maximise profit;
  • Retaining and developing each client subject to pricing/profitability targets;
  • Providing input into annual planning (operational and financial) and reporting cycle on accounts;
  • Keeping up to date with industry and company developments affecting the client;
  • Ensuring the required service levels are being given to the client;
  • Adhering to standard treaty wordings;
  • Issuing well-presented quotes to clients.

Enhancing and promoting the Life Health Marketing Strategy by:

  • Contributing to defining marketing and pricing strategy;
  • Working in alignment with marketing strategy;
  • Building their own and Gen Re’s profile through being actively involved in corporate events and publications;
  • Identifying new opportunities and developing new business;
  • Maintain good relationships with reinsurance buyers;
  • Representing Gen Re Life Health at professional meetings;
  • Creating and delivering presentations, writing articles to advance Gen Re’s brand and agenda.

Cooperation across the Group through:

  • Providing and seeking advice to/from other parts of the Group;
  • Looking for opportunities for other parts of the Group;
  • Assisting the marketing efforts of other parts of the Group.

Your Profile


  • A background in actuarial work is essential.
  • Account management skills gained in the Life/Health or Property and Casualty insurance or reinsurance sector are desirable.


  • Proven ability to understand and put together reinsurance solutions for client’s risk, liquidity and solvency problems.
  • An understanding of the end to end risk chain from insurer to reinsurer and the ability to think creatively and resolve challenges arising from all areas of the business be that actuarial, operational, underwriting or claims.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proactive approach to work.
  • Uses initiative where appropriate and can work with minimal supervision.
  • Must display client focus, creativity, intuition, integrity, decisiveness, collaboration, accountability and be prepared to represent the brand externally with professionalism.
