How to Handle With Care Data on Disabled Lives Mortality – A Statistical Approach
Issue: April 2016 | Long Term Care | Download PDF | English By Dr. Anja Bettina Schmiedt
This article outlines a statistical approach to handling data on disabled lives mortality in long term care (LTC) insurance. The data was provided by a European insurance company and extends to 3,000 severely disabled lives during an observation period of 17 years. A proportional hazards regression model was applied to assess how mortality is influenced by risk factors, including pathology and age at point of LTC claim. The influence of these risk factors is dependent on the time elapsed since LTC entry was analysed in particular. With regard to pathologies, particular emphasis was applied to the survival behavior of disabled lives suffering from cancer, neurological diseases or dementia.
