Even though digital solutions have long been important in all industries, the COVID‑19 pandemic that has been going on for almost a year now has made them indispensable, indeed almost impossible to imagine life without them.
In this issue of Claims Focus, we would like to highlight the opportunities and risks that technologies and increasing digitalisation pose in medicine and the world of work.
In the leading article, Lamees Daniel presents the positive and negative aspects of virtual assessment and treatment as well as the implications of telemedicine as a source of information in the claims management process.
Andrew Mills and Johannes Schmidt explain criteria that mental health applications should meet in order to potentially support claimants with mental disorders. Kate Swanson also addresses mental health as a potential area that could be affected by the pandemic. After looking at the advantages and disadvantages of increased work flexibility, she explores the consequences for the claims management process and mental health claims in particular.
The work of claims management teams around the world is the subject of the Gen Re International Claims Consistency Survey conducted by Mary Enslin and Clio Lawrence prior to the spread of COVID‑19. The first part of the survey results looks at the impact of claims philosophy, processes and digitalisation as well as the identification and use of resources that can optimise the claims management process.
