Catastrophe modeling firms are responding to signals of climate changes and to the surrounding uncertainty. Cat models help insurers make important decisions about capital management, reinsurance purchases and their underwriting guidelines. Erdbeben ereignen sich in Deutschland vergleichsweise selten, doch sind die Schadenpotentiale aufgrund der Nähe zu Ballungszentren wie dem Kölner Becken sowie dem Oberrhein sehr hoch. Die Gen Re hat daher ein eigenes Erdbebenmodell entwickelt, welches die Gesamtheit möglicher Erdbebenquellen und -herde abbildet. Der nachfolgende Beitrag beschreibt die Erdbebensituation in Deutschland, gibt Einblicke in die Hauptkomponenten des Erdbebenmodells und präsentiert einige wichtige Ergebnisse des Modells.
