One of the driving characteristics of Gen Re is our continual pursuit of underwriting excellence. Underwriting excellence means creating an environment that supports and nurtures underwriting knowledge and technical expertise. We have the capacity and willingness to absorb volatility, and we apply our knowledge and expertise to help produce profitable underwriting results for our clients and ourselves.
Knowledge Sharing
As your reinsurer, we offer our unique skills and knowledge to improve your underwriting results.
Each year, we publish more than 50 articles addressing emerging issues across all lines of business. This helps keep us, and more importantly our clients, on the leading edge of global trends in risk, litigation and loss. Our publications represent just a sample of how Gen Re underwriters put their technical expertise to work for our clients every day.
We provide policy and endorsement reviews, industry specialist groups, technical training seminars, and underwriting and claims audits.
Underwriting Reviews
A Gen Re underwriting review is a comprehensive, analytic view of your underwriting decisions and processes. Our review team will evaluate underwriting actions ranging from information gathering to pricing, monitors and controls, to the ultimate underwriting decision and how these processes align with your strategy. You will receive our initial findings before we leave your office. We will then follow up with a full written report containing detailed findings. You will be able to see if any accounts do not fit your risk guidelines or hazard classes, if specific rating errors led to lost premium, and if a new procedure could help you improve underwriting decisions.
We provide the view – you decide how to use the information to make your business more successful.
Policy Wording
Policy language is inextricably linked to the underwriting success of any insurance program. The best underwriting can be undone by less than clear policy wording. Our underwriting, claims, legal and drafting specialists translate developments in cases and laws into revised wording that can make a difference in the underwriting success of our clients business.
We developed the Gen Re Research publication series Policy Wording Matters to improve underwriting results through better policy wording. In this newsletter, we review new wordings, court decisions and laws affecting the interpretation of policy language. Drafting suggestions are often provided. Recent editions have addressed personal injury coverage, sexual abuse exclusions, business interruption claims, and claims-made forms.
