Issue: December, 2002   Language: Deutsch
Author: Oliver Franz

Insurance Issues Europe 2002/12 - Impending Changes in the European Health Care Sector and the Effect on Risk Management and Malpractice Insurance - Click here to order printed copy or download PDF file (size:0.28MB)
Issue: December, 2002   Language: English
Author: Oliver Franz
Summary: The publication explores the changes that have occurred in the European health sector in recent years (based on the examples of Germany and the UK, in particular) and forecasts further trends expected in this area. Specific subjects discussed include the steep increase in the cost of health-care, the introduction of new compensation systems for health services rendered, market consolidation and privatization trends and the resulting situation of intensified competition among providers. The associated rise in the workload of health-care staff exacerbates the risk of medical malpractice. Finally, the article points out how this development, accompanied by growing litigiousness on the part of victims, will necessitate an adjustment of medical malpractice covers and a more comprehensive approach to risk management.
