Gen Re is recognized by its clients for its excellent underwriting manuals. There are manuals for Individual Life, Long Term Care, Individual Disability Income, and Critical Illness. Each reflects our commitment to excellence.
Since its inception as The Cologne Manual, life insurance risk classification practitioners throughout the industry have recognized this manual as one of their most valuable resources. During the evolution of SOURCE – Life, we have conscientiously retained the characteristics our clients told us were most valuable to them. With each re-issue we incorporate new features to complement our existing strengths. As ever, SOURCE – Life provides succinct snapshots of a comprehensive array of topics, usually in optional “pop-up” boxes with simple one-click access. Navigation to the underwriting action remains faster and easier than in any competing manual. Additional capabilities such as live Internet links to valuable websites and facilitated e-mail to Gen Re’s dedicated underwriting and medical personnel make it a state-of-the-art tool to generate fast, competitive underwriting decisions.
Our goal is to provide the best manual in the industry to our clients. The pursuit of the newest technologies and research are measures of our commitment. The brochure SOURCE – Life 6.0 describes features of the 2007 release in detail. SOURCE – LTC
The LTC Manual is the ongoing intensive effort by the underwriters and medical doctors of Gen Re LifeHealth. The experience of our individual health underwriters, which averages more than 20 years each, combined with the contributions and insights of our four full-time medical doctors have been leveraged to create the most comprehensive and detailed manual available in the Long Term Care industry today.
This manual covers more than 2,000 impairments. The detail to which these are subdivided and categorized increases the total number of decisions offered to nearly 10,000. A distinctive feature of our manual is the “decision tree” approach of favorable and unfavorable factors. We designed a manual that would “think like an underwriter” by addressing one risk factor at a time, first considering the primary risk of the impairment and then branching out based on the specifics of the case.
