Underwriting applicants with mental problems in Life and Health insurance is challenging. The classification systems ICD-10 and DSM-5 state objective diagnostic criteria for psychiatric diseases – but the symptoms and impact of the disorders come largely from the narrative of the applicant and do not have the objective markers of severity that are available for many other diseases.
The current edition of Underwriting Focus deals with anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder and eating disorders. We will give you an overview of the clinical pictures, treatment options and specific impairments associated with these diseases. The medical evaluation will be complemented by case studies and underwriting recommendations.
This edition will be rounded off by a Look Across the Fence on the characteristics of underwriting in Australia and New Zealand, a Current Focus about differentiating headaches and an overview of the Exceptional Sport of Flyboarding.
