Program Description

Within a few months of joining Gen Re you will participate in our trainee program. We provide an international trainee program, which is based on a high level of empowerment within an exceedingly productive environment, combining on the job training with intensive classroom phases. There may also be the opportunity of a several week assignment to another location or business environment. During the comprehensive program you will become familiar with all relevant aspects of our unit Life/Health International. This comprises knowledge about reinsurance standards and guidelines, risk management, biometric products, tools and, of course, clients. Training also covers interpersonal skills as well as client and business development. This program is the ideal opportunity to build an excellent network with your international peers participating in the program and a broad variety of Life/Health International experts at an early stage in your career.

Your tasks

The position for the German market involves the servicing and active cultivation of relationships with our clients and includes a broad range of tasks, including:

  • Monitoring the market with respect to biometric life insurance products and underwriting practices
  • Developing underwriting ideas, guidelines and standards for biometric life insurance products – with a risk adequate as well as client-oriented focus
  • Developing modern application processes, e.g. creating meaningful application questions practicable for automation and the point-of-sale as well as considering data analysis requirements
  • Evaluating the chances due to digitization and new developments like, for example, electronic health records (Digitale Patientenakte) and PSDII (EU-Zahlungsdiensterichtlinie); tracking such developments and checking their applicability within the context of insurance
  • Analyzing definitions of claims triggers and terms of insurance with respect to medical or biological aspects and providing corresponding medical or biological assessment; developing profound best practice definitions; supporting product development and pricing
  • Research and evaluation of medical and biological studies and statistics
  • Close collaboration with physicians, underwriters, claims experts and mathematicians
  • Consulting of our clients (insurers) regarding questions/topics of biometric products
  • Creating presentations and developing training measures for clients
  • Marketing activities, including giving presentations at conferences and writing articles

Your skills and qualifications

  • Excellent university degree in biology, biostatistics, health economics or similar with a keen interest in mathematics
  • Alternatively, university degree in mathematics or actuarial science with a keen interest in medical topics. However, for the right person a different background may also be taken into consideration.
  • Strong interest in biometric risks
  • Prior work experience or internship in insurance or reinsurance would be advantageous
  • Interest in working in an international environment
  • Very good familiarity with MS Office, ideally including Excel
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills as well as creativity
  • Capacity to work effectively in a team environment
  • High degree of energy and willingness to learn
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Fluent German and English are required
