Digital Actuary

General Reinsurance, London Branch (a subsidiary of General Reinsurance AG) currently have an opportunity for a Digital Actuary in our London Life/Health Department.

Your Role:

Gen Re has been active in researching InsurTech for around 3 years. This work has resulted in the creation of a network of tech partner companies. These companies are working to develop digital and mobile solutions to fit customer engagement, risk prediction/reduction, claims mitigation/management, and new distribution models that can support Gen Re in growing the market for life/health business. The Digital Actuary function will assist Gen Re in understanding the role of digital tech in the acquisition and management of profitable reinsurance business. The successful candidate will explore the potential for digital technologies in the context of life/health product, pricing, underwriting and claims.

Job Description:

  • Driving forward Gen Re digital strategy;
  • Developing and implementing new digital initiatives, products and services;
  • Verifying the technical and actuarial aspects of digital startups and tech companies
  • Specific projects in cooperation with these companies.

The Role will also include involvement in:

  • Fostering information exchange about digital topics, inter-market innovations and new opportunities;
  • Identification and pursuit of opportunities with third party partners and distributors with the aim of writing more reinsurance business;
  • Communication of Gen Re digital strategy
  • Projects and pilots – identifying, engaging, planning, participation etc.;
  • Supporting client seminars, meetings etc.;
  • Marketing – creating partner materials, information packs etc.;
  • Publishing – blogs, podcasts, video, LNet content and external communications;
  • Networking – seminars & conference attending/contributing, linking people/companies.


  • Fully qualified Actuary required with professional experience gained within the Life/Health insurance or reinsurance sector;
  • Experience in insurance product development;
  • Applicants need to possess excellent actuarial modelling skills: VBA, MS Access and SQL experience is desirable;
  • General IT skills to an advanced level are essential, e.g. MS Excel.
  • Having experience of and exposure to Data Analytics and statistical software is preferable;
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills; have excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills. It is essential that they have the ability to deal with people at all levels and possess a professional attitude whilst maintaining a friendly and approachable demeanour.


Market rate dependent upon experience.
