Actuarial Assistant

General Reinsurance Africa Ltd (a subsidiary of General Reinsurance AG) currently offers an opportunity for an Actuarial Assistant in our Cape Town office.

Your Role:

Gen Re Cape Town is reviewing the internal control environment and potential for business process automation. To support this process a temporary position has been created to provide technical support across the Actuarial, Finance and Research departments. The duration of the contract will be 12 months and the role will report to the Head of Actuarial Function.

Job Description:

  • Review and summarise reinsurance treaty arrangements.
  • Assist in premium reconciliations including cleaning of client data, writing of reports and process automation.
  • Testing and documentation of automated employee benefits quotation software.
  • Testing and documentation of client data import procedures and processes.

Key strategic aims of the role:

The key aim of the role is to aid in establishing tools and processes which can then be put into a production environment. The candidate will play a significant role in helping Gen Re Cape Town meeting its goal of having increasing process automation while at the same time improving the internal control environment.

Experience/Qualifications:

Attainments
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • University degree in Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance or related field.
  • Knowledge of insurance products and South Africa Life Insurance Industry in general would be an advantage.
  • Experience of using SQL, R or Python would be an advantage.

  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
